Experience Bibi-Khanym Mosque

The Bibi-Khanym Mosque is one of the most significant and imposing architectural landmarks in the city and Central Asia. The mosque was constructed in the 15th century during the reign of Tamerlane (Timur) and is named after his wife, Bibi-Khanym. The mosque is a stunning example of Timurid architecture, known for its use of intricate tilework, grand entrances, and a massive dome.

The mosque's enormous dome was considered one of the largest in the Islamic world at the time of its construction. It is supported by massive columns and features a ribbed design, with the interior adorned with exquisite decorations.

Over the centuries, the mosque suffered significant damage from earthquakes and other natural disasters. Extensive restoration work has been carried out to preserve and restore the site to its former glory. The Bibi-Khanym Mosque, along with other historic sites in Samarkand, is designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
