Registan Square is one of the most famous and historically significant landmarks in Samarkand, Uzbekistan. It is located in the heart of the city and is renowned for its stunning Islamic architecture. The name "Registan" translates to "sandy place" in Persian, which reflects the square's original state. Registan Square is known for its three grand madrasas (Islamic educational institutions) that surround it on three sides. These madrasas are:

Ulugh Beg Madrasa: Built by Ulugh Beg, the grandson of Tamerlane (Timur), in the 15th century, this madrasa was a center for the study of science and astronomy. It is characterized by its impressive portal and intricate tilework.

Sher-Dor Madrasa: This madrasa, constructed in the 17th century, is famous for its twin tiger motifs, which are unique in Islamic architecture. The tigers are chasing the sun, representing the idea of not being able to have power over the universe.

Tilya-Kori Madrasa: This madrasa, also built in the 17th century, is known for its stunning gold-colored dome and ornate decorations. It was primarily used for religious education.
